The Princess Victoria Arrived in Sydney from Calcutta via Hobart on 28th November 1834 having sailed from Calcutta on 10th August and Hobart 19th November.

Free Passengers

Passengers included Dr. Wilson R.N., Mr. John Stubbs, Rolla O'Ferral, Esq., Captain Laird, late of the 31st regiment, Mr. William Clay, and 13 European prisoners of the Crown from England.

The Convicts

The prisoners were all formerly soldiers from England and Ireland who had been convicted of crimes such as mutiny, stabbing with a bayonet, shooting with intent and assault.

Henry Boggs native place Fermanagh. Age 30. Tried at Desse, Bombay 1 January 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for mutiny

James Bridle native place Dorsetshire. Age 32. Tried at Madras 30 June 1834. Sentenced to transportation for life for manslaughter Died at Parramatta 15 May 1838

John Callon native place Leeds, age 28. Tried Kernaul, Bengal 31 December 1833. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for mutiny

Patrick Clinton died on board at Calcutta

Edmund Carman native place Chester. Age 28. Tried Calcutta 26 June 1833. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for shooting with intent to kill

Thomas Gillon native place Belfast, age 28. Tried Kernaul, Bengal 30 December 1833. Sentenced to 7 years for mutiny

Edward Gretton native place Nottingham. Age 23. Tried Kernaul, Bengal 30 December 1833. Sentenced to 14 years transportation for mutiny.

John Hornby native place York. age 28. Tried Desse Bombay 8 January 1834. Sentenced to transportation for life for mutiny. Granted Conditional Pardon 1 January 1840

James Hall native place Bradford, Yorkshire. Age 25. Tried Carnpore, Bengal 25 March 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for mutiny and stealing clothes.

George Harman native place Wiltshire. Age 33. Tried at Madras 7 August 1834. Sentenced to transportation for 7 years for stabbling with bayonet.

George McDonald native place Lancashire. Age 31. Tried at Carapore, Bengal 25 March 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for stabbing with a bayonet Died in 1840

Thomas Nowlan native place Kilkenny. Age 27. Bried Bangalore 11 July 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for robbery and attempt to murder. Was previously in the colony as a soldier in the 57th regiment

Michael O'Brien native place Limerick. Age 27. Tried at Dimpore, Bengal. Sentenced to transportation for life for stabbing with a knife. Died in Newcastle Hospital 4 January 1840

George Train, native place Yorkshire. Age 26. Tried Berhampore, Bengal 4 March 1834. Sentenced to 7 years transportation for mutiny


The Sydney Herald reported that two beautiful entire Arabian horses were imported on the Princess Victoria for Richard Jones Esq.,
