NAVAL CAREER

Thomas Somerville was appointed Assistant-Surgeon to the Ringdove on 18 May 1837. [2]

He was appointed Assistant-Surgeon to the Conway at Portsmouth 23 May 1843[3]

He was appointed Surgeon to the Cleopatra at the Cape of Good Hope 14 June 1845[4]



SURGEON SUPERINTENDENT

Thomas Somerville was employed as Surgeon Superintendent on the convict ship St. Vincent to Van Diemen's Land in 1853.



STAFF SURGEON

Thomas Somerville is listed in the Medical Register
Residence Surgeon Royal Navy H.M.S. Cornwallis in 1861[5]



DEPUTY INSPECTOR-GENERAL

On 15 October 1868 he held the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Hospitals and Fleets on the Retired List. [6]



DEATH

Thomas Somerville died 23 January 1894 at Strathview, Larnarkshire, Scotland.

Thomas Somerville was appointed Surgeon on 18 May 1837; Staff Surgeon 10 January 1846; Fleet Surgeon 5 August 1861; and Deptuty Inspector-General 15th October 1861, on which date he retired from the service. - [7]
