David Brown senior arrived as a free settler with his children Mary, James, David junior and Thomas on the Earl Cornwallis in 1801.

Other free passengers on the Earl Cornwallis included

John and Hannah Dight and their twelve children;

William Eckford; and

William Spears of the New South Wales Corp


In 1824 David Brown (senior), David Brown (junior), and brother Thomas Brown, were each promised 150 acres at Jerry's Plains. Thomas Brown's 150 acres was the most easterly of the three grants.
