James Hamilton R. N.,

Convict Ship Surgeon-Superintendent


James Hamilton was entered in the Navy List of Medical Officers of 1814. He was employed as Surgeon-Superintendent on two convict ship voyages to Australia:

1). Adamant to NSW in 1821

2). Chapman to VDL in 1824

Adamant 1821

The Adamant departed England on 29 March 1821 and arrived in Port Jackson on 8 September 1821. James Hamilton kept a Medical Journal from 10 March to 12 September 1821.

Chapman 1824

The Chapman departed England on 6 April 1824 and arrived in Van Diemen's Land on 27 July 1824. James Hamilton kept a Medical Journal from 4th March to 31st July 1824.

Marriage

Notice of his marriage to Patricia Babington was published in the Londonderry Sentinel......Married at Inver Church, on Thursday 1st August, by the Rev. Alexander Montgomery, Doctor Hamilton, of Newtownstewart, to Patricia, youngest daughter of Murray Babington Esq., Bonny Glen Londonderry Sentinel 10 August 1839 [1]

1841

James Hamilton was on the List of Surgeons of the Royal Navy who were fit for service in 1841

Medical Registry

He is included in the List of the Medical Registry of 1865 - Residence Newtown Stewart, Co. Tyrone. Qualifications - Surgeon in the Navy 1811, Poor Law appointment 1852.

Death

James Hamilton R.N., died on 30 September 1869, at his residence, Newtownstewart, in his 79th year. - Londonderry Sentinel 5 October 1869. [1]
